Rustenburg - Activist Napoleon Webster, accused of murder, was released from the Rustenburg prison on Friday. 

This was after the North West High Court ordered on Thursday that he should be released on a R3 000 bail.

Lawyers representing him approached the high court after he was denied bail at the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on April 4.

The high court further ordered that Webster must reside at his Meadowlands home until his case was finalised, he must report at the Meadowlands police station every Friday between 6am and 6pm, he must surrender his passport to the investigating officer, must not communicate with State witnesses directly or indirectly, and must not interfere with investigation.

He was expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on September 12. He was arrested together with 13 others on a charge of murder.

The State alleges they hacked Sabata Petros Chale, 39, to death in Marikana West, on December 8, 2016, allegedly over the allocation of low cost (RDP) houses at Marikana West Extension 2.

Chale was allegedly chased by a group of about 30 people and was hacked to death with pangas, axes and spears. He died at the scene. His attackers allegedly drank his blood.

Aubrey Seitsang, Sibonile Sobopha, Mdlondozi Fundiwo, Herbert Baqhesi and William Nyenyane were denied bail. Their case wa postponed to September 12.

While Aphindile Pungone, Samson Gqwetani, Gift Luveli, Nkululeko Msithwa, Nkosindiphile Nziyose, Luvo Soyizwaphi, Sivuyile Qasha and Mzolisi Mbulana were expected to apply for bail at the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on August 2. They were arrested while Webster and the other five were applying for bail.
