Alleged woman killer dies after severe beating

Rustenburg - A 25-year-old man, beaten for allegedly killing a woman in Boitekong near Rustenburg has died, North West police said.

Rustenburg police spokesperson Sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi said Modisaotsile John Mpete died on Monday.

"He succumbed to his injuries on Monday [11 September], he was due to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court for murder."

He said the police were now investigating a case of murder and no arrest has been made.

Residents in Boitekong severly beat Mpete on September 3, after the half naked body of Mmapule Makhutle was found with visible head injuries at Boitekong's Yizi Yizo section, her skull was crashed and her eyes were gouged out, she was also allegedly raped, but Sergeant Mokgadi said the police were waiting for DNA test and could not at this stage conclude she was rape.

The community tracked down Mpete, whom Mmapule's younger sister Dineo Makhutle last seen him with Mmapula, blood stained clothes were found at his place.

The community took him to an open space where he was assaulted and set him alight, he was partially burnt on his genitals downwards admitted in hospital.

Mmapula was laid to rest at the Rietvlei cemetery on Saturday, during her funeral service, community and religious leaders spoke hard against drug dealing and alcohol abuse.

Ward councillor  Abissai Seleka told mourners that all known nyaope dealers have been arrested.
