Taung, North West -

Corrupt police officers cause dwindling confidence in law enforcement, North West premier Thandi Modise said on Sunday.

“There should be no place in the police service for those who disgrace the dignified blue uniform, those who terrorise our communities instead of protecting them,” she said in a statement.

Modise was responding to the arrest of a police constable in connection with the kidnap and assault of a man in Taung.

The man claimed he was kidnapped from his home in Lokgabeng village, Taung, on Saturday, police spokesman Lt-Col Lesego Metsi said.

He was asleep when three intruders apparently woke him up, tied his hands, put him into a car and drove off with him.

“The victim alleges that the suspects assaulted him and accused him of having stolen their property. He told police that the suspects pulled his private parts and urinated on him before robbing him of his cellular phone and a cash.”

A woman constable, a man and a woman were arrested. They would appear in the Taung Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
