Rustenburg - A six-year-old child drowned in a swimming pool in Promoza near Potchefstroom, North West police said on Thursday.
Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the child drowned on Wednesday afternoon.
“It is alleged that the minor was sent to go and buy sweets by her guardian at a nearby tuck shop. The minor took two friends with her,” said Moleko.
“According to reports the three minors went to a house two blocks away from where they stay and went inside to go and swim.”
She said an employee of the house heard the sound of children screaming, and when she went outside, she noticed that the child drowned.
“The victim was certified dead by the Emergency Medical Services at the scene. The investigation continues.”
