Man sentenced to 15 years behind bars for killing grandmother

Rustenburg - A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder of his grandmother, North West police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said Lebogang Moreosele was sentenced at the Atamelang Regional Court on Wednesday, for the murder of his grandmother, Nunu Martha Moreosele, 78.

She said Moreosele was arrested in Atamelang on January 20, 2018 after the police received a complainant about a murder that took place in Vrischgewaagte village near Atamalang.

"Upon arrival at the scene, they found the lifeless body of Moreosele in a pool of blood. Investigation was conducted and it was revealed that the grandson of the victim had a quarrel with his grandmother. He took out a knife and stabbed her in the chest, she died on the scene. The suspect was arrested and has been in custody ever since his arrest," said Moleko.

North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the sentence, saying it was a clear message to criminals that crime does not pay.
