Brits - Two Lonmin mineworkers arrested for possession of explosive were granted bail at the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Michael Matlala, 35, and Pauline Mokwebo, 42, were each released on a R1 000 bail, both intend to plead not guilty to the charge.
They were arrested on September 13, after explosive used in the mine was found inside their car.
In an affidavit read out in court by his lawyer Norman Ngwenya, Matlala stated that he was employed as a general worker at Lonmin, he is married with two children who depend on him for support.
He said he paid his children’s school fees every month and if he was remanded in custody the children would not be able to continue with their education due to non payment of school fees. He further stated that he owns a house in Tornado, Bapong near Brits and would obey all bail conditions imposed on him.
Pauline Mokwebo in her affidavit stated that she was employed as a general worker at Lonmin. She is widowed with two children who depend on her for support. She said she lived in Oukasie near Brits and would abide by bail conditions imposed on her.
Magistrate Moses Maswanganyi granted them bail and ordered Matlala reports at the Mooinooi police station every Wednesday and Mokwebo to report at the Brits police station every Wednesday.
The case was postponed to November 4, for investigation.
