Johannesburg - Nine suspects will appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court in connection with the murder of relatives of struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada.

Yunus Kathrada, the late stalwart's nephew, and his son Ahmed were killed during an apparent house robbery in the North West last week Thursday.

Nothing was taken during the house robbery, North West police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Adele Myburgh Myburgh told IOL.

A few days later, a task team was set up consisting of different units within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

"They followed up on information from Monday until Tuesday and a total of nine suspects were arrested between the ages of 18-60," she said.

Police also recovered two vehicles believed to have been used to commit the alleged crime as well as a firearm.

Myburgh also could not confirm whether the suspects were in any way linked to the deceased, adding that it would form part of their investigations.

The men face two charges of murder as well as attempted house robbery and will appear in Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
