Rustenberg - Three buses were set alight and roads blocked in Ikageng near Rustenburg on Tuesday.

North West police said the buses used to transport learners to school were torched around 1am.

"A case of malicious damage to property has been opened and no one has been arrested," said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

The road between Lethabong and Rustenburg were still barricaded with rocks, tree branches, smouldering tyres and other objects on Tuesday evening.

A group of mostly young boys was standing on the blocked road, some soliciting money from passing motorists while they negotiate their way through the blocked road. The boys ran away when a police van flashing blue lights drove in their direction.

The situation was calm and Public Order Police were monitoring. It was not clear what the protest was about.
