Rustenburg - Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment each for rape at the Klerksdorp Regional Court, North West police said on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said the men, aged 31 and 30, raped a minor girl at Extension 19, Jouberton near Klerksdorp on February 21, 2013.
"According to information the minor, who was staying with her grandmother at Extension 11 in Jouberton, visited her mother at her boyfriend’s place. The mother was not in the house when the child came and she went to a nearby tavern to look for her.
"She did not find her mother at the tavern and slept over at her mother's place because it was already dark. Her uncle and his friend came to the house and they found the minor sleeping alone and they both raped her.
"When she went back to her grandmother's place at extension 11 where they noticed that she was walking funny and her aunt questioned her.
"The minor who was only 11 years old during the incident was taken to hospital and police were called and the two suspects were then nabbed."
