Police hail life sentence handed to father who threatened, repeatedly raped daughter
Carnarvon - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape on Sunday welcomed the life sentence handed to a 32-year old father this past week for repeatedly raping his 11-year old daughter between 2016 and 2017.
"The victim was threatened by her father and raped on several occasions," Captain Sergio Kock said in a statement on Sunday.
The victim eventually reported the rape to one of her father's colleagues. The suspect was arrested on April 25, 2018 and remained in custody until the case was finalised. The man was found guilty in the Carnarvon Circuit Regional Court on Friday and sentenced to life imprisonment on the same day.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Floris Fritz from the Carnarvon family violence, child protection, and sexual offences (FCS) unit, was commended and applaud by Northern Cape FCS head Brigadier Nicky Mills for his excellent work and for making Carnarvon a safer place, Kock said.
