Seven children, one adult killed in Northern Cape crash

Kimberley - Seven children and an adult woman were killed when a car and an SUV collided on the Barkley West road near Kimberley in the Northern Cape on Friday night, paramedics said.

 

ER24 paramedics and local services arrived on the scene at about 8.30pm where they found seven children, aged between five and 18, with fatal injuries, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

"An adult woman was also found with fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries. It is understood that nine occupants were in the Toyota Corolla at the time of the collision. An occupant from a [Toyota] Landcruiser was treated on the scene for moderate to serious injuries."

 

The circumstances surrounding the collision were not yet known. However, it was understood from bystanders that one of the vehicles allegedly made a U-turn in the road, he said.
