Police arrested four suspects, including a woman, at an empty house in Tamboerskloof on Friday just a few blocks from where police inspector Lukas Nell was gunned down on Tuesday.
When the police arrived, the four had bags of ammunition and stolen goods packed in bags ready to go.
One tried to flee but was soon nabbed by a large contingent of police, including the dog unit.
The police acted after a tip-off by the Tamboerskloof neighbourhood watch and private security officers.
Lewis Lynch, chairperson of the neighbourhood watch, said one of their members had noticed suspicious people in the large Victorian house on the corner of Woodside and Leeuwenvoet roads, which had been standing empty for six months after the owners divorced.
Police spokesperson Randall Stoffels said that when police entered the house they found three men aged 33, 40, and 52, in the house, all from Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain.
A 22-year-old woman was also arrested.
He said police recovered shotgun cartridges and 9mm bullets. Bank cards with pin numbers were also found as well as other stolen goods.
