Rescue teams search for missing plane

Johannesburg - The National Sea Rescue Institute and emergency teams were searching for a light aircraft with nine people on board that went missing over Plettenberg Bay on Tuesday.

The plane had been travelling from Queenstown to Plettenberg Bay and disappeared while trying to land near the Robberg Nature Reserve in heavy fog, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

The single-engine aircraft was said to have been carrying nine people.

The NSRI was alerted about the plane shortly before 7pm.

Emergency services including the NSRI, the police, the fire and rescue service and the Eden Disaster Management Centre were on standby for the missing plane shortly before midnight. - Sapa
