Cape Town - A South African national was aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 when it crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, according to a report carried in Beeld.

The newspaper named the man as helicopter pilot Cameron Dalziel. He reportedly worked for a helicopter company in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Department of International Relations said on Friday morning that it was still waiting for a report on the Malaysia Airlines plane that went down in Ukraine to see if any South Africans were on board.

“We are waiting for a response from our mission in Kuala Lumpur to see if there were any South Africans aboard the plane,” spokesman Nelson Kgwete said. - IOL and Sapa
