The Johannesburg High Court on Monday extended an interim interdict granted to the SABC last week preventing the Premier Soccer League (PSL) from negotiating broadcasting rights of soccer games with other parties, SABC news reported.

The interdict was extended pending the outcome of the court's judgment in the matter, due to be handed down next Tuesday.

On Monday, the court heard applications from other broadcasters including eTV and Supersport.

The applications arose from a dispute between the SABC and the PSL over the negotiation of a new contract for the next season of soccer matches.

The SABC approached the Johannesburg High Court, seeking to prevent the PSL from negotiating with other parties, until an arbitrator had resolved the key contractual disputes. - Sapa
