The Pretoria High Court on Tuesday sentenced Capital Park serial killer Samuel Sidyno to seven life terms for murder, and one year for theft.

He was found guilty last week on seven charges of murder and two of theft.

In passing sentence, Judge Johan van der Westhuizen recommended that Sidyno serve 40 years before parole could be considered, SABC radio reported.

The judge said an expert on serial killers had described Sidyno as a psychopathic, sadistic sexual murderer, adding that Sidyno could therefore not be rehabilitated.

The crimes were committed in Pretoria between 1998 and late last year.

Six bodies of both men and women were discovered on Capital Hill near the Pretoria Zoo and one near Pretoria North.

Most of the victims were found with their faces to the ground, without shoes and covered with branches.

Judge van der Westhuizen acquitted Sidyno on two charges of rape as there was not sufficient DNA-evidence. - Sapa
