The Department of Correctional Services is to charge Richard "Junior" Engelbrecht, accused of murdering Annestacia Wiese, for violating correctional supervision conditions.

This comes in the wake of revelations that he could also face charges relating to the death of five-year-old Rafique Hardien, whose body was found three years ago just over a kilometre away from his Mitchell's Plain, Portland home.

More than a year ago Engelbrecht was sentenced in the Mitchell's Plain magistrate's court for stabbing American student journalist Laura Wiens in the neck.

According to Correctional Services sources, Engelbrecht was released in November last year under correctional supervision by the court.

He was under 24-hour house arrest in line with his supervision conditions and was told to report to a correctional officer if he found employment.

The conditions also stated that he perform 16 hours of community service a month for two years.

He apparently violated some of the conditions.

A senior correctional officer explained on Monday that Engelbrecht had already performed community service at the Mitchell's Plain Community Correctional Centre and at sporting events on the Cape Flats and by washing cars.

Correctional Services provincial spokesperson Mark Solomons said he would be taken to a court soon regarding these violations to receive an alternative sentence.
