We listened to you, our readers, and revamped the IOL app so that news is offered according to your interests.

The new and improved IOL app is a result of feedback from readers, numerous user groups, user experience specialists and analytics.

With access to all the news on IOL as well as over 20 of Independent Media's top newspaper brands, the app allows you to stay informed with content that ranges from breaking news to in-depth quality reporting and from light-hearted stories to thought-provoking opinion and analysis.

The IOL app also offers the latest Sports news and results, Entertainment, Lifestyle and Travel coverage as well as everything you need to know from the world of Motoring.

You will also have access to news and opinion from Business Report, SA's most widely read financial newspaper, as well as Personal Finance, which tackles issues affecting the pockets of everyone.

All this is available to our app users at any time of the day, any day of the week.

You can set your preferences to show you only what you’re interested in. For example, if you only like to read about Sports and Business, then you have the option to tailor your feed accordingly.

If you like Entertainment, Lifestyle and Politics, then you too can filter out the rest by setting your feed.

On launch of the app, you will be shown your personalisation screen. Here you can select and deselect the sections you want to see on your ‘My News’ feed, as well as order them to your preference.

You can access this personalisation screen to change your preferences at any point, by clicking on the floating pencil icon on the lower right of your screen.

User Generated Content

Over and above our quality news coverage, we invite you to contribute your news coverage and to share your stories, that will allow us to publish to the over 3,8 million readers we have - every month. Find this feature under our “Share your story” section in the menu, or by simply clicking on the camera icon on the homepage.

You will need to login before being able to share your story, and you can do this through your Google account, Facebook and/or Twitter.

Augmented Reality

In keeping with digital developments, we added the option for you to experience augmented reality at your fingertips. Augmented Reality works by scanning an image in your print title with your mobile phone or tablet's camera, triggering a virtual interaction or experience.

Look for this option within the app and explore another aspect of digital coverage.

Most of our content is available to you for free because we'd like you to visit us a lot. From September 1, our R24.99 a month introductory price will change from access to all our titles, to access to one title of your choice, for example The Star or The Cape Argus. News junkies who want to access all the content in our newspapers can subscribe to the full bouquet for R99.99 a month.
