Kuruman- Servicing over 30 000 people across 57 villages in the area, the Kuruman Trust mobile clinic has been helping those most in need since its inception three years ago.
The clinic was launched in 2015 by the Kuruman Community Trust, set up to provide benefits to the Kuruman community, and since its inception, has made its way to villages throughout the impoverished region where decent medical facilities may be up to a day away.
Some of the villages benefiting from the clinic include Gamopedi, Olifantshoek and Tsineng, which are between 50 – 110km away from the town of Kuruman.
This distance makes it almost impossible for residents of these villages to make their way to a hospital for medical care and the local clinics are are over- burdened.
The clinic carries out numerous rotations between these villages, setting up base in each location for approximately for 2-4 weeks to ensure residents receive the quality care they deserve.
Services are offered free of charge.
Services offered include medical screenings and treatment for: acute conditions, chronic conditions, gynaecological care including pap smears, HIV counselling and testing as well as free eye tests and glasses at the mobile eye clinic.
There's also an in-house dental clinic that provides cleaning, minor dental ailments care as well as minor surgical procedures such as teeth extractions.
In addition to this, the trust will launch a campaign on cervical cancer to ensure that women receive medical care in the form of free pap smears and education needed to save their lives.
This after it identified the high number of cervical cancer fatalities as a particular concern in the area.
With more support, the trust hopes to embark on early cervical changes treatment as part of its operations .
