10 killed, 30 injured in Beaufort West bus crash tragedy

Beaufort West - Ten people have died and 30 were injured when a bus overturned on the Aberdeen Road about 25km outside Beaufort West early on Thursday morning. 

Authorities and rescue personnel are currently on the scene extricating trapped people from the underneath the wreckage, said Emergency Medical and Forensic Pathology Services spokesperson Robert Daniels.

According to Provincial Traffic Chief Department of Transport and Public Works, Kenny Africa, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, resulting in this tragedy.

Many took to social media to mourn the deaths.

 

The bus was travelling from Cape Town, making its way to Beaufort West. There is currently a stop-and-go system in place to help the flow of traffic.

Further information will be given as the incident develops, said Daniels in a statement.
