Cape Town - Alleged gang boss Jerome “Donkie” Booysen has dodged death for the sixth time in 15 months after being hit in the arm on Wednesday. According to a police source, the alleged leader of the Sexy Boys gang came under fire at Soneike Mall in Kuils River shortly after having lunch.

“From what we have been able to gather, he was having lunch at Spur and then left with his two guards when two gunmen opened fire near the entrance," the source says.

“He was hit in the arm and another man who appears to be his guard died. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is under police guard."

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed on Wednesday afternoon: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident at about 3pm at a shopping mall in Kuils River is under investigation," he says.

“One person has been shot and killed and another man was wounded during this incident. Police are investigating a case of murder. Our crime scene experts are still on the scene combing the area/scene for clues.”

On Friday, 23 March, Booysen was driving in Beacon Valley when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle just after 8pm.

Sources say Booysen only survived the attack because his car, a black Porsche Cayenne, is bulletproof.

Last year, there were four attempts on Booysen’s life, including one at the Cape Town International Airport, where he was shot four times.

The first attempt was in May, when he was shot in the neck in a drive-by shooting in Ravensmead.

The second attempt was in September, in a drive-by shooting in Sacks Circle, Bellville when the car the shooters thought he was travelling in was shot at 50 times, with 21 bullets hitting the target.

In October, another attempt on his life was made at the airport where the alleged gang boss was hit four times in the upper body.

A week later, while recovering at a Bellville hospital, an assassin allegedly tried to take Booysen out with snake venom and a scalpel.

The hitman was allegedly disguised as a female doctor, wearing a white doctor’s coat, pumps and a wig.

Booysen’s guards caught the suspect, Fabian Cupido, 39, who was arrested and charged with attempted murder and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
