Cape Town - Pete Mihalik, one of the Western Cape's top advocates, was gunned down while dropping his child off at Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard on Tuesday morning. 

While police have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim, a source close to Mihalik has confirmed that he was the target of the attack.

Anti-Gang unit detectives and SAPS crime scene experts are combing the scene of the shooting on the corner of Cavalcade and Thornhill in Green Point. 

The 50-year-old advocate, whose clients include murder accused Jason Rhode and a number of prominent underworld figures, was shot in his head and fatally wounded in his vehicle by an unidentified suspect just after 7.30 am. 

According to police, the suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a metallic grey VW Polo. 

Mihalik’s eight-year-old son was also injured during the incident and has been admitted to hospital.
