Cape Town - Two prominent members of a Cape Town gang remain behind bars following their arrest in connection with multiple murder and attempted murder cases.
Lyle Montego 'Trompie' Silver, 24, and Anderson 'Bougard' Koeberg, 27, were arrested on Wednesday along with numerous members of their gang.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk in a statement said the arrests followed a significant increase in murders and attempted murder cases within the Muizenberg and Steenberg Policing precinct.
"Intelligence gathered linked members attached to the “26” Junky Funky Kids (JFK’s) to these serious and violent cases.
"Various individuals within this gang structure were identified and discovered to be repeat offenders and solely responsible for multiple murder and attempted murder cases."
Investigations revealed that Trompie was a member and shooter for the gang, situated within Hill View, Muizenberg, and was positively linked to: one business robbery case, four murder cases as well as two attempted murder cases all in Muizenberg.
Koeberg, identified as a possible leader and shooter for the gang, was meanwhile, linked to: two murder cases in Muizenberg, three murder cases, including one of a one-year-old toddler, one case of possession of a hijacked vehicle and 11 attempted murder cases all in Steenburg.
Van Wyk confirmed that other suspects linked to the gang were also arrested and that further arrests would follow.
Silver appeared Muizenberg magistrates' court on November 14 while Koeberg appeared in both Wynberg and Muizenberg Magistrates Court on November 12.
"[Silver's] bail application was abandoned and the matter was postponed to January 17 2019.01.17 for further investigation, centralisation of cases as well as the institution of POCA (Prevention of Organised Crime Act) charges.
[Koeberg's] matter was postponed to November 23 2018."
Both suspects remain in custody.
