Court packed as #PeteMihalik murder accused make first appearance
Cape Town - Court 16 at the Cape Town Magistrate's Court was packed to the rafters as the two men accused of murdering controversial lawyer Pete Mihalik made their first appearance.
Sizwe Biyela and Nkosinati Kumalo, dressed in jeans and T-shirts, appeared on four charges which included the murder of Mihalik, the attempted murder of his 8-year-old son, possession of illegal firearm and possession of ammunition, the NPA’s Eric Ntabazalila said.
The matter was postponed to November 8. The State asked for eight days postponement to investigate the particulars of the accused.
Ntabazalila said they have been remanded to Sea Point Police Station as there might be security challenges if they are referred to other prisons like Pollsmoor.
Accused No 1 Biyela, aged 26, applied for legal aid and accused number 2 Kumalo, aged 31, will appoint a private attorney.
Mihalik was fatally shot outside Reddam House in Green Point on Tuesday. His 8-year-old son was also wounded in the attack.
