Cape Town - The Oudtshoorn Municipality has confirmed reports of a 3.4 magnitude tremor.

The tremor occurred along the Cango fault line north of Oudtshoorn at approximately 8:30 am on Tuesday morning.

According to the Eden District Disaster Management, the tremor was measured at 3.4 on the Richter scale and is calculated at 6km into the ground.

Residents in the area are advised that there is no reason to panic and no damages have been reported.

The municipality has temporarily closed tours at the Cango Caves as a precautionary measure.
