Cape Town - Police on Tuesday said officers arrested a man in connection with the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Harare, Khayelitsha on Monday night.
According to a statement from police, the girl was last seen playing outside her grandmother's home.
"The child left for home, but she never arrived. The community started searching for her and her clothes were found near a shack, where her body was found shortly after," the statement said.
"She had sustained stab wounds to her chest."
Police later arrested a man, 33, who was expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court soon.
