Cape Town - Sport has caused arguments between many couples. Saturday afternoon rugby seems to be the biggest culprit.
Province ahead, second half turning into a real nail-biter and all I have to do is pull my partner away from the TV, into the car and drive us to the new “Green” hotel that had recently opened only 400 meters from Cape Town International Airport.
Easy? Ha! I'd rather take on a fully grown mountain lion then have that “but we must leave NOW, love” talk.
All rugby aside, we arrived at the easily visible hotel (it being purple and green) 15 minutes late. The Hotel Verde - “verde” means green in Italian - claims to be the greenest hotel in Africa. And as it boasts, the Hotel Verde really does afford travellers a convenient location to host a business meeting, catch up on emails and have a rest before flying out or getting to an appointment.
That said, you should not think that it is not equipped to handle a relaxing weekend break. Anything but.
The hotel offers free Wifi (no capping, no restrictions), a smart gym - which enables you to generate electricity while you work out, an outdoor running trail and rock pool (which at the time of my visit was nearly complete).
To accommodate the weary traveller or the hungry pregnant lady (that would be me) the hotel offers breakfast from 4am - a buffet-style set that will satisfy any palate.
Accommodation
Everything the hotel does is about sustainability and protecting our environment. When you enter the room you insert your key card into a slot at the door that activates all the amenities. Lights, TV… action. The fact that all these things just switch off when you leave helps you and the hotel save electricity. Also, all the lotions and potions in the rooms are locally produced and not harmful to the environment.

It seems they have thought of everything to accommodate all sorts of people, from the tourist to busy businessmen as the hotel offers seven meeting rooms. The conference facilities cater for everything, from one-on-one meetings and launches to team buildings and day conferences, accommodating up to 120 delegates.
With comfy beds, free Wifi, excellent food and staff that you wish you could take home, the Hotel Verde offers you so much more than a place to crash before your next flight.
It's a relaxing retreat in the middle of the airport industria. You leave feeling refreshed and rather pleased with yourself for limiting your carbon footprint. Albeit for only one day. - IOL
