Johannesburg - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Hout Bay during a protest by members of the community, it said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the shooting happened on September 12 and was captured in video footage that has been circulating on social media.

"The shooting was not reported to the Ipid as required by the Ipid Act. If no valid reasons are advanced for not reporting, additional charges will be added. Ipid investigators visited the mother of the victim and obtained her statement [Thursday] today," Dlamini said.

"A case of attempted murder is being investigated. No arrest has been. The investigation continues."
