Cape Town - Cameron Wilson is a psychopath and is a danger to society.

This was the finding of a forensic psychiatrist in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

Sentencing proceedings are currently underway for Wilson, 20, from Heinz Park, who was convicted of 13 charges including murder and rape.

Professor Shaun Kaliski, testified that he conducted assessments on Wilson at Valkenberg Hospital as per court order.

During his evaluation he found no significant signs of mental illnesses.

“The severity and frequency of his violent behaviour is sufficient evidence that he possesses the capacity to commit extreme violence. He also scored high on the Psychopath Checklist (PCL) which adds to the impression that he is a psychopath."

“The accused should be considered a danger to the physical and mental well-being of others,” Kaliski said.

Wilson’s lawyer, Advocate Mohamed Sibda, asked whether environmental factors or genetics could be to blame, referring to Wilson’s father, Abraham Wilson, who is currently in jail on a charge of triple murder in Bishop Lavis.

“The consensus is that psychosis comes from a genetic component, but environmental factors cannot be ruled out. There is no way of knowing which one it is,” Kaliski offered.

Earlier, in her report, probation officer, Natalie Choto, described Wilson as “rather normal” and that he grew up in a loving and supportive home.

“The concerned sees his father as his mentor and at Goodwood Correctional Facility, correctional officers allowed the two to spend quality time together,” she said.

Wilson has been transferred back to Pollsmoor Prison and is in a single cell for his own protection.

Choto said: “He admitted he belongs to the 28s gang since 2015 and opted willingly to join the gang as part of survival and protection in prison. I was informed he is currently being held in a single cell for his own safety as other inmates are aware of the offences he was convicted of and some of the victims and family members involved has threatened his life and vowed to ensure that he receives his own death.”

The case continues.
