Man killed as light aircraft crashes in De Doorns

Johannesburg – A man died after a light aircraft crashed in the Keerboskloof area, in De Doorns, on Monday, Western Cape paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing-Harduth said that the aircraft had flown between mountains in the area and people heard a loud noise.

“They then saw smoke. They contacted the [South African Police Service] SAPS which attended to the incident. ER24, Metro and Fire and Rescue also attended to the incident,” Bodasing-Harduth said.

“An Air Mercy Service helicopter was activated. Personnel found the aircraft that had caught alight during the incident. They were able to retrieve the body of a man which was found close to the wreckage.”

She said that there was nothing that could be done for the man in his 20s who sustained burn wounds. He was declared dead.

The exact cause of the accident is not known and would be investigated.
