A 26-year-old was arrested after an armed robbery at a fast food outlet in Kuilsriver in the Western Cape, police said on Sunday.

Three robbers got into the shop on Saturday night and locked the staff in the toilet, said spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk.

Two of the men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones, while another man remained and started assaulting the owner with a revolver, said Van Wyk.

“The suspect ran away when a security guard went to investigate.”

The guard chased and captured him. A revolver, with it's serial numbers filed off, was confiscated from him, said Van Vyk.

The man was handed over to police and would appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate's court on Tuesday, on charges of armed robbery, possession of illegal firearm and assault with the intend to do grievous bodily harm.

Van Wyk said police were still searching for the two men who ran off with the money and cellphones. - Sapa
