Cape Town - A strange sight greeted commuters on Thursday morning as a naked man was spotted braving the M5 highway in the heavy rain.
According to users on Twitter, the “under-dressed” man was seen strolling along the yellow lane of the highway, near Ottery, at around 8am.
But shock quickly turned into concern for Facebook users on the “Traffic fines, cameras and updates in the Western Cape” page.
“Brave and in this weather! On a serious note… Hope he’s not mentally disturbed,” wrote one user.
“Has anyone stopped to help him? He might have been robbed of all his clothes and belongings,” said another.
“Probably got mugged and they took everything. Happens in the area.”
A motorcyclist reportedly took pity on the man, stopping to give him a lift.
The city’s traffic services spokeswoman confirmed that they had spotted the naked man on the M5 northbound near the Ottery turn-off.
“We handed the matter over to Wynberg SAPS,” she said.
Many users on social media claimed they had seen the man before, walking in areas such as Riviersonderend and on Lansdowne Road.
