Cape Town - A pregnant woman was shot and wounded in a cash-in-transit heist in Parow on Tuesday morning, Western Cape police said. 

Spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut, said that

by two people in Voortrekker Road at around 8am. 

"Several shots were fired by the suspects and the female pedestrian was wounded and admitted to hospital," Traut said.

"The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and are yet to be arrested."

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the woman was found lying on the side of the road, and was seriously injured.

"Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained a gunshot wound to her chest, leaving her in a serious condition." 

She was treated on the scene and transported to Tygerberg Provincial Hospital for additional care.

Investigations continue.
