Cape Town - Police have confirmed that a suspect has been taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of well-known Cape Town defence lawyer Pete Mihalik.

On Tuesday afternoon police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said "a suspect is being questioned by detectives of the anti-gang unit in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old man this morning in Green Point".

An outside source has confirmed to IOL that police tracked down the suspect close to the scene of the murder less than two hours after the shooting.

Mihalik was gunned down outside his son's private school earlier today.

His murder has been branded a hit by various people familiar with the Cape underworld.

Mihalik had represented a number of suspected gang bosses and had previously been linked by witnesses to various alleged crime kingpins.

Mihalik's 8-year-old son was also wounded in the incident and is receiving medical care at an undisclosed location.
