Cape Town - Several Cape Town roads will play a major role in reshaping the city over the next years.

The routes have been identified as links between suburbs, and in some cases will be lined by apartments and businesses.

In the Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Greater Blue Downs district plan, AZ Berman and Stock roads in Mitchells Plain have been identified as “activity routes”. These are roads with stretches of mixed-use developments, which can easily be accessed by residents.

In Eerste River, Wimbledon Road is named, and Forest Drive is also proposed as an “activity route”.

Baden Powell Drive, which goes along the sea in places, will be marketed as a “scenic route”.

In the Tygerberg region, a major transformation is on the cards for Voortrekker Road.

More traffic-calming measures will be introduced. The plan also suggest a new interchange between Borcherds Quarry Road and the N2.

It is also proposed to link Durban Road and Modderdam Road. These two roads will be joined by Symphony Way to make up a new “public transport and development corridor”.

Giel Basson Drive, Stellenbosch Arterial and 35th Avenue will be key in the development of the area.

The Cape Flats plan cites Wetton and Lansdowne roads as among the most important.
