Cape Town - Three men were arrested for serious crimes in the Nyanga precinct this week, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.
Police said two suspects aged 24 and 35 appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing charges of hijacking.
Spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said the men were arrested on Monday after they had allegedly hijacked a vehicle on Friday in Borcherd’s Quarry road.
“The two suspects had allegedly driven past the complainant’s vehicle and just stopped in front of the vehicle. One suspect jumped out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the complainant, pulled him out of the vehicle and drove away with it. The suspects were apprehended after an investigation had been conducted,” said Van Wyk.
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing charges of rape and robbery.
The complainant alleged that she took an Avanza taxi to visit her boyfriend. The driver of the Avanza dropped all other passengers and when it was time for her to be taken to her destination, the driver requested to first go to the garage. The complainant agreed, but when they came back from the garage the driver took a different direction.
“He drove away with the complainant to a dark place where he raped her and robbed her of her belongings,” said Van Wyk.
The suspect was apprehended by people who called the police.
