Tops cops in hot water after leaked Whatsapp messages
Cape Town - The Daily Voice is in possession of a screenshot of the conversation between Jula and Mitchells Plain police cluster commander, Major General Greg Goss, during which they refer to former Community Policing Forum chairman Michael Jacobs as “the nemesis”.
In a letter to Robert McBride, the Executive Director of police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), whistleblower Colin Arendse has called for the two top cops heads to be investigated and suspended.
Arendse says he received the screenshot on December 17. The conversation takes place in a WhatsApp chat group titled “Cluster Commanders”.
The chat commences when “Ass Comm” Goss posts a photo of Michael Jacobs.
“PC Gen Jula KE” asks: “Is this the nemesis?” To which Ass Comm Goss replies: “Yess Sir”. (sic)
Arendse says: “I happen to know Michael Jacobs personally as an upstanding and reliable community activist who is at the forefront of exposing corruption and maladministration in our society.
“Several sources have confided in him about a plan to get rid of certain CPF chairpersons who have fallen out of a favour with Goss”
“I am also extremely perturbed about the covert language used between Jula and Goss.
“As far as I am aware, ‘nemesis’ means enemy or an opponent or rival whom a person cannot overcome.
“While our people are being killed, some of our incompetent police generals like Jula and Goss are literally wasting time chatting about their imaginary enemies instead of leading the investigation into numerous murders and rampant crime on the Cape Flats.
“Such delusional behaviour bordering on lunacy should also be seen in the context of the recent illegal demotions of fellow Police Major General’s Jeremy Vearey and Peter Jacobs. These leaders, with the Operation Combat team, locked away entire gang structures on the Cape Flats but were rewarded with an unexplained demotion from Deputy Provincial positions to lower Cluster Commanders.
“I demand that the morally corrupt Generals Jula and Goss be immediately suspended and this illegal incident be investigated by the Commander of Ipid, Robert McBride, without fear or favour.”
Jacobs says he won’t let the top cops stand in his way of fighting crime. “I am still very active in the community. I will continue to advocate for a Commission of Inquiry into policing in the Mitchell’s Plain Cluster and will not be deterred in my mission with others to improve policing within the Mitchells Plain Cluster,” he says.
A shocked Goss on Sunday said the WhatsApp group was used to share “confidential information between senior police members only”. He referred queries to provincial structures.
Jula said he has launched an investigation. “I do not know Michael Jacobs and my conversation with Major General Goss is not related to Michael Jacobs, but to operational police matters. This chat group is for operational purposes. I will sanction an investigation into how this information came into the public domain.”Daily Voice
