Cape Town - Two people died and three others were injured when two vehicles crashed head-on along the Plattekloof road between Bosmansdam and Vryburger Avenues in Bothasig, Cape Town.
ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said shortly before 4am Tuesday morning, paramedics, Metro Rescue and Cape Town Fire arrived on the scene, where they found some of the occupants still trapped inside the wrecked vehicles.
Rescuers had to use specialised equipment to free them.
"Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for one of the drivers and he was declared dead," said Vermaak.

"A female passenger was found in the other vehicle with critical injuries. While paramedics were treating her, her condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite the efforts of paramedics on scene, she succumbed to her injuries."
A passenger was seriously injured. Two others suffered "minor to moderate injuries" said Vermaak. They were treated and stabilised on scene before they were taken to a nearby hospital.
Local authorities attended the scene and they are investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
