Pretoria - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela visited her ex-husband Nelson Mandela at the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday.

She arrived in a black vehicle with blue police lights at 2.45pm and entered the hospital with another woman. She was the second family member to visit the ailing former president on Thursday.

Earlier, Mandela’s granddaughter Ndileka Mandela arrived at the facility and spent an hour-and-a-half inside. Later in the day, a group of women from the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto came to pray for the anti-apartheid icon.

They placed red roses and purple and white candles with pictures of Madiba on them at the hospital's entrance in Celliers Street. The wall is covered with hundreds of well-wishes, cards, posters, and flowers for Mandela.

He has been in hospital for two months, after being admitted on June 8 with a recurring lung infection. The presidency reported last week that he was in a critical but stable condition.

Joe Seoka of the SA Council of Churches told reporters on Wednesday that Mandela’s wife Graca Machel had said he was conscious and responsive.
