Johannesburg - EFF members gathered in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, for a protest march over a ban on wearing their red overalls in the Gauteng legislature.

Dressed in red Economic Freedom Fighters' T-shirts and berets, they sang liberation songs as they alighted from buses.

Others ran up and down Rissik Street holding a banner and posters promoting the party's first anniversary.

Johannesburg metro police said traffic along Rissik and De Villiers streets would be affected by the march.

Party leader Julius Malema was expected to lead the march to the Gauteng legislature to protest over the ejection of EFF members of the provincial legislature (MPLs) for wearing overalls during a sitting on Tuesday, July 1.

Gauteng speaker Ntombi Mekgwe ordered seven EFF MPLs to leave the chamber for wearing red overalls with the word “Asijiki” (we will not go back) inscribed on the back.

The party's representatives wore red overalls, hard hats, and domestic workers' outfits to the opening of Parliament on Tuesday, June 17, without problems in that case. - Sapa
