Durban - Beauty salon staff spent their 67 minutes giving appreciation to the Denis Hurley centre volunteers, who spend their time, energy and effort to help take care of the less fortunate.

The centre serves the needs of underprivileged people in Durban, especially migrants and refugees. They also offer services through their clinic, feeding scheme and community support.

The Sorbet franchise team chose to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day by recognizing these men & women who dedicate their time helping the homeless at the centre.

Sorbet Broadway owner, Pamela Pillay said:”It is mostly volunteers that help the homeless at the centre.

"We thought it would be a good idea to come and give the volunteers a treat for their effort, to let them know how much we appreciate people like them.”

The staff were treated to pedicures & facial treatments. One of the recipients  was social worker Khulekani Mdiniso who has worked at centre for three years.

Mdiniso said that she is grateful because they are the ones who are usually giving but today, they were given a taste of the Mandela Day spirit.

Commenting on the fact that many people only contribute for 67 minutes, Mdiniso said: "what is upsetting about this day, is that people just want to do it for the sake of 67 minutes but for us it is a Mandela Day everyday that we come in."
