Parliament - “We will keep on walking,” Justice Minister Jeff Radebe said on Monday during a special joint sitting of Parliament's two houses to pay tribute to former president Nelson Mandela.

“Madiba, your long walk to freedom has not ended. It is just the passing of an era,” he told MPs, moving several to tears.

“We pick up your speed, to continue (the) long walk toward the economic emancipation for all, so that this economy of ours must reflect the demographics of the new South African rainbow nation.”

A sombre Radebe vowed to continue with Mandela's vision.

“The big tree has fallen. The baobab has fallen. The world will never be the same again. A pledge we make to you... is that as a nation, we will keep on walking.”
