Johannesburg - The Zimbabwe Communist Party (ZCP) has on Tuesday, come out in support of the young South African woman who was allegedly assaulted by Zimbabwe's First Lady, Grace Mugabe, saying that they were not surprised at this recent outburst by the iron lady of Zimbabwe.

This comes as Mugabe was scheduled to make a first appearance at the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday afternoon on charges of common assault.

The Johannesburg woman, who identified herself only as Gah-bee on Twitter, was apparently found in the company of Mugabe’s two sons - Robert Jnr, 25, and Chatunga Bellarmine, 21 - at a Sandton hotel, before she was allegedly attacked. The Mugabe boys were reportedly unsteady on their feet after a long party.

"Gah-bee" posted pictures on Twitter showing a deep gash on her forehead. The woman alleges that the wife of President Robert Mugabe attacked her in the presence of numerous bodyguards. Mugabe handed herself over to police on Tuesday morning.

Speaking outside court, ZCP general secretary, Ngqabutho Nicholas Mabhena, said that they were grateful to South African authorities for upholding the rule of law because Mugabe would have gotten off scott-free if the incident had happened in Zimbabwe.

"We want to thank the South African authorities for acting in the manner in which they did. We know that Grace Mugabe attacked a young lady who happened to be staying with her sons," Mabhena said.

"We know that if it was in Zimbabwe, all of us would not be standing in front of a court where a First Lady would be appearing in court. But because the South African government and the African National Congress, unlike its counterpart Zanu-PF, still uphold the ideals of the liberation struggle...which state that no one is above the law."

Mabhena alleged that Mugabe was a "violent person" who should go for anger management therapy because she had a track record of violence.

"She is a violent person in nature. We know what she did in Dubai when she assaulted a journalist. She has a record of assaulting individuals. We think that she has a problem with managing her anger. And we recommend that she should go for counselling," Mabhena said.

He also said that Mugabe should take her sons back to Zimbabwe because there was no concrete reason why they were staying in South Africa in the first place.

"It has been proven that the sons of Grace Mugabe are wild. We are here to say that whenever she goes back to Zimbabwe, she has to take her children back to Harare and try to instil behaviour in these kids. Why are these kids in South Africa in the first place?"

Last month, the Mugabe sons were allegedly evicted from a luxury apartment in Sandton after a brawl which left a security guard injured.
