Harare - Zanu-PF youth league boss, Kudzai Chipanga, says he apologises to the Zimbabwe military for the hostile statement he made against armed forces boss, Constantino Chiwenga.

In a statement to the state newspaper, The Herald, he said he was handed the statement and forced to read it. "I would like to apologise for the statement I made yesterday (Tuesday) together with my executive at the Zanu-PF Headquarters. I as leader of the revolutionary party’s Youth League, I have reflected and personally admitted that I erred."

‘‘I was ill-advised to read a statement which I and the Youth League had not originated neither authored.” He made his apology on the ZBC, controlled by the military.

Indications from sources close to the military - which is making no statements - are that Mugabe is not being ‘co-operative’ and is refusing to stand down to make way for a version of an inclusive government. This cannot be confirmed officially.

The three main roads leading to the centre of Harare, have been closed down by the army and the city is much quieter then it was on Wednesday, the first day of the military seizure.

Commuter transport is much reduced into the city and it seems, at least early in the day, that few civil servants, who make up the bulk of workers in central Harare have not gone to work on Thursday.

Well-placed sources in Harare say that first lady Grace Mugabe has not left the country and at least two cabinet ministers sought refuge in the Mugabe family mansion in Borrowdale.

Chinese movies are showing on the ZBC which is where most Zimbabweans with electricity get their information.
