Taung – Three Special Needs Schools in North West obtained a 100 percent pass rate, Education and Sport Development MEC Sello Lehari said on Thursday.
He said three of the five candidates who wrote the Grade 12 examinations at Christiana School for the Blind in Christiana met the requirement for degree studies.
"Three of the candidates met the requirements for degree studies and one the requirement for diploma studies...." he said releasing the North West matric results.
Six candidates at Meerhof in Hartbeespoort Dam near Brits all qualified to go to tertiary institutions for diploma studies, while all three candidates at Tlamelang Special School in Gelukspan near Mahikeng passed, with one qualifying for degree studies and the other two qualifying for diploma studies.
Two farm schools also did well, at Moedwil Mega Farm School outside Rustenburg, 47 of the 55 candidates managed to passed, a pass rate of 85,45 percent, while at Mampho Secondary School in Schweizer-Reneke, 62 of the 66 candidates passed for a pass rate of 93,94 percent.
Lehari said although he was happy about the overall achievement of the province, he was not satisfied that the province did not obtain a top two position as it had planned. The North West attained an 86.2 percent pass rate, an increase of nine percent from 77.2 percent in 2015, to see it finish fourth out of the nine provinces.
