Pretoria - A would-be robber was shot dead and his accomplice wounded when the pair attempted to break into the home of a Legal Aid lawyer in Erasmia on Sunday.
According to police, the woman heard a sound in her yard, prompting her to investigate where it had come from.
“She came across the two men in her yard and ordered them to stop while pointing a firearm at them,” police spokeswoman Captain Augustinah Selepe said.
Apparently one of the intruders charged at the home owner, leading to her firing a shot at him.
“She pulled the trigger and wounded one in the leg.
“The complainant said the suspects charged at her and she fired the second shot, hitting the same suspect in the left leg,” Selepe said.
One of the intruders died on the scene while the other one, although wounded, managed to flee.
Selepe said police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery.
