Cape Town - Brazen teen gangsters have openly threatened to take bloody revenge for the murder of schoolboy Glenrico “Jimmy” Martin on a controversial website.
Cops have arrested and quizzed two suspects, a 19-year-old and 18-year-old, in connection with Glenrico’s brutal killing.
The 19-year-old Manenberg pupil was shot in the back of the head as he entered Spes Bona High School in Athlone last Wednesday.
On Friday, cops placed a ring of steel around the school, amid fears of revenge attacks.
Many parents kept their kids at home because they feared they would not return from school.
Meanwhile, Glenrico’s pals, some apparently members of the Hard Livings gang, have openly vowed to avenge his death online.
They went onto a controversial website called chatsa.biz - similar to the notorious Outoilet site - to issue chilling threats to their rivals, members of the G-Unit gang.
One gangster, calling himself “Mr British”, posted: “RIP Jimmy. Just wanna say that G.Unit are n**iers I’m cursing you… not gonna live long… the Hard Livings is coming for you this weekend remember that.”
Another message posted by an anonymous user reads: “G-Unit was all jealous of Jimmy cos they all dom and he was Matric and got all the mooi kinnes. And al they are dirty n***ers We gonna come back to pick up Jimmy’s blood remember we not done yet!”
But Glenrico’s heartbroken mother Henrietta Martin, 48, made an emotional plea for the bloodshed to stop.
“I don’t want other children to go out and take revenge if that is what they are planning,” she told the Daily Voice.
“They should leave everything to the court. I would not want another mother to lose her son like I did.”
Cops admit they only recently became aware of the threats after the Daily Voice brought the website to their attention.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “Until a few days ago, we were not aware of the website fuelling gang violence in the area. We will now be looking into the matter.”
The police also beefed up patrols in Athlone and Manenberg in a bid to prevent any further bloodshed.
There was also a strong police presence at Spes Bona High School in Athlone on Friday morning.
About six police vehicles were lined outside the school’s main entrance with many more cops patrolling on the premises.
Reporters were kept outside the locked front and side gates to the school.
When the Daily Voice arrived at the school before 11am, about six cops and a police dog were sitting outside the administration block.
Not a single pupil was seen outside the school yard or in the quad.
Concerned parents demanded better security for their children.
“We just need more security on the school grounds, that is all we want,” one mother who did not want to be identified told the Daily Voice.
Another parent added: “Police must patrol on the school more often, not just when things like these happen.
“They can’t only have two Bambanani women here - that is not enough.”
Meanwhile, the two teenagers are due to appear in court on Monday charged with Glenrico’s murder.
The 19-year-old from Bokmakierie and 18-year-old from Bonteheuwel were arrested on Thursday and Friday respectively.
They will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder.
Cops are still hunting for a third suspect.
