Rustenburg – The situation was calm in Ditsobotla local municipality on Wednesday following days of violent protest, North West police said. "It is quiet currently."

"Four tyres were burnt at Agrico building, not a heap. We are maintaining presence at the affected areas," said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone. Police received a call that an Agrico building was set alight on Tuesday night and found four tyres burning. Mokgwabone said 14 people were arrested on Tuesday in Coligny for public violence.

"During an operation held yesterday [Tuesday] to recover goods that were looted on Monday and Tuesday eight suspects were arrested and goods, mainly groceries and liquor, were recovered."

Mokgwabone said nine people had also been arrested in Boikhutso, near Lichtenburg, for possession of suspected stolen goods, after being found in possession of goods that appeared to have been looted from shops on Tuesday.

The suspects were expected to appear in the Lichtenburg and Coligny Magistrates Courts on Wednesday.
