Three ANC councillors, including former ANC Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa were seriously wounded after being shot at uMzimkhulu in southern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday night.

ANC provincial secretary Super Zuma confirmed the shooting but said details were sketchy. “All we are focusing on right now is saving their lives. We cannot say whether they are critical or not as they are being attended to in hospital,” Zuma said.

Spokesperson for the KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison, Kwanele Ncalane, said MEC Mxolisi Kaunda and his counterpart at Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube have called an urgent meeting to try to address the killings in uMzimkhulu.

Three ANC councillors and a former councillor have been killed in uMzimkhulu since the beginning of the year.

MECs Dube and Kaunda are expected to visit the troubled municipality tomorrow.

The names of the other injured councillors had not been confirmed. - The Mercury
