Durban - Three men have been arrested for being in possession of 162 kilograms of copper in KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the arrests were made in Madadeni Section 3 on Tuesday.

“On arrival police discovered the suspects in possession of 162 kilograms of copper valued at approximately R40,000,” he said.

Naicker said it was suspected that the copper was stolen from a business in Madadeni and burnt near the river so that it could be sold as scrap.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were expected to appear before the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
